Australian Tax Filing

Australian tax filing is required for Australian-sourced income and gains. For Australian “non-residents”, filing is not needed without such income or gains. However, Australians should not assume that they are non-residents for tax purposes simply because he or she is no longer physically present in the country. An Australian citizen can be considered tax resident if his or her family remains in Australia, or if the country remains his or her “centre of vital interest”.
